REPENT

From that time Jesus began to preach, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand "
(Matthew 4:17)

I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
(Luke 5:32)

The men of Nineveh will stand up in court with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold a greater than Jonah is here.
(Matthew 12:41)

I say: No, before unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
(Luke 13:3, 5)

The demand to repent is the most essential message of Jesus. It is also essential, and almost synonymous with the term "Ye must be born again" (John 3:7).

Repentance in the message of Jesus is not a change in behavior, but an internal change that gives rise to a new behavior focused on God and Christ exalting.

The first order of Jesus' public ministry was "Repent." He gave this term indiscriminately to all who will listen. It is a call to a radical inner change toward God and man.

Two things show us that repentance is an internal change of mind and heart, more than mere sorrow for sin or mere improvement of behavior. First of all, the meaning of the Greek word (metanoeo), in Spanish "repent", points in this direction. It consists of two parts: meta and noeo. The second part (noeo) refers to the mind and its thoughts, perceptions and dispositions and purposes. The first part (target) is a prefix that usually means movement or change.

Thus, the basic meaning of repentance is to experience a change of perceptions and dispositions and purposes of the mind.

Another factor that points to this meaning of repentance is the way Luke 3:8 describes the relationship between repentance and the new behavior. It says, "Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance." And then gives some examples of the fruits: "And he answered and said unto them that hath two coats, give him who has none, and whoever has food should do the same. "(Luke 3:11). This means that repentance is what happens within us that bears fruit to a new behavior. Repentance is not the new acts, but the internal change as a result gives new acts. Jesus calls us to live this internal change.

Why? His answer is that we are sinners. "I have come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." (Luke 5:32). How he saw Jesus sin? In the parable of the prodigal son, Jesus describes the sins of the son as well, "and there wasted his substance with riotous living ... [and] eating [property] with prostitutes" (Luke 15:13, 30). But when the prodigal son repents says, "Father I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am not worthy to be called your son. "I mean to waste your life living it madly and prostitutes not only harms humans, it is also an offense against the sky-that is, against God. This is the essential nature of sin. It is an assault on God.

We see this again in the way that Jesus taught his disciples to pray. He told them to pray like this: "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us" (Luke 11:4). In other words, that God forgives sins are compared with those that others commit against us, and these are called debt. Thus, Jesus saw sin as something that dishonors God and puts us in debt to restore the honor of God that we have defamed our behavior or attitudes, devalued to GOD. This debt is paid by Jesus himself. "The Son of man came. . . to give His life a ransom for many. "(Mark 10:45). But for us to enjoy this gift we must repent.

Repenting means experiencing a change of mind that makes us see God as true and beautiful, and worthy of all praise and obedience. This change of mind also extends to JESUS. We know this because Jesus said, "If God were your Father, love me, because I come from God." Seeing God with a new mindset includes seeing Jesus with a new mentality.

No one is excluded from the request that Jesus made to repent. He said it very clearly when a group of people came to him with news of two evils. Innocent people had died in the slaughter of Pilate and the fall of the tower of Siloam (Luke 13:1-4). Jesus used the occasion to warn those who brought the news: "Before, if you repent you will all likewise perish" (Luke 13:5). In other words, disasters do not think that means that some people are sinful and need to repent and not others. All need repentance. Like all need to be born again because "That which is born of the flesh is flesh." (John 3:6), so all must repent because they are all sinners.

When Jesus said, "I have come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" (Luke 5:32), did not mean that some people are so good they need no repentance. Meant that some people think they are (Luke 18:9), and others have already repented and have clarified things with God. For example, the desire of the young man "and justified" (Luke 10:29) as "the tax collector. . . beat his breast, saying, 'God, have mercy on me a sinner! "[and] went to his house justified [by God!]" (Luke 18:13-14).

So no one is excluded. We all need to repent. And the need is urgent. Jesus said, "Before, if you repent you will all likewise perish." What he meant to perish? Meant that the Judgement of God will fall on those who do not repent. "The men of Nineveh will stand up in court with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold a greater than Jonah is here" (Matthew 12:41).

Jesus, the Son of God, is warning people about the trial to come, and offers it free if we repent. Otherwise, Jesus has three words for us, "Woe to you" (Matthew 11:21).

That is why the order of repentance is part of the central message that says the Kingdom of God is near. "The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent and believe the gospel." (Mark 1:15). The gospel-the good news-is that the law of God has come in Jesus to save sinners before his second coming on the day of trial. So the demand to repent is based on the offer of grace to forgive, and the warning that one day those who reject the offer will perish in the trial of GOD.

It is necessary to wash our clothes every day as God wrote in Revelation. Living a life pleasing to God, in holiness, in repentance! How estásviviendo you? This is a time of repentance, conversion time, teimpo of salvation! Do not waste it!

WHO EVER THAT IS GOD guide us and have built NOS IN YOUR TRUTH AND IN YOUR LOVE.

God bless you,
